Breakfast for Dinner
On a whim (or should I say, after seeing a commercial), hubby and I decided to celebrate National Pancake Day at IHOP. There aren't any IHOPs in the heart of the city, so we ventured into the suburbs to enjoy breakfast for dinner. wow! We were not prepared for the gads of teenagers and interesting, non-city folk. We each ordered a free short stack and shared a gigantic omelet. Did I mention the portion sizes are always bigger at chain restaurants in the suburbs? Hubby had a big glass of chocolate milk and I 'splurged' on decaf coffee, one of the few non-water beverages I can drink. Not much time had really passed, but our waitress stopped by a couple times to apologize for the delay. Then another waitress stopped by and asked what we ordered and that she would check on it. She noticed my belly and said, "wow, you look like you're about ready to pop" and started rambling on and talking to us. Suddenly, she announced, "Let me get you some free soup. What kind would you like?" Hubby and I were just completely bewildered at this point. Soup? With pancakes? It was the oddest thing ever, like she wanted to give me something special for being pregnant. We tried to tell her that we didn't need anything, but she slipped away and returned a few minutes later, trying to deliver some bowls of soup. Our original waitress stopped her and said, "What are you doing? That doesn't go there." Weirdest thing ever. Anyway, it was a nice break from cooking and good, cheap entertainment.
