Baby Girl Born at Denver Library
A Denver baby was so anxious to start her life and to start reading that she was born on the first floor of the main Denver Public Library this morning.
"It's never happened before," DPL spokeswoman Celeste Jackson said.
"We had a lady come in about 9 this morning, saying she'd been riding RTD and was in labor," Jackson said.
Library staffers and security guards turned into amateur medics for a few moments until Denver paramedics arrived.
"They did a great job," Jackson said, referring to both the library employees and the professional paramedics.
The woman gave birth to a baby girl near the east entrance of the library. "She was pretty far along. She delivered right there."
The mother and the baby were taken to Denver Health Medical Center.
Library officials don't yet know the mother's name or the baby's name, but want to send flowers.
