We had an early ultrasound to get a better estimated due date. Generally speaking, it's too early to tell gender, but the ultrasound tech was pretty confident that we are having a boy! Hubby was quite proud of himself, saying baby takes after his father. Uh, yes, let's think about that statement for a minute! We'll check again at our next ultrasound, but now starting to brainstorm boy names.
Baby is doing well, healthy heartbeat, good size and very active. He was bobbing his head during the ultrasound and squirming around, moving his arms which was quite cute. We were surprised that a 5 oz little one (hubby likes to compare him to half a can of Coke) already has recognizable features. We were also surprised by the enthusiasm of our ultrasound tech. Either she really loves her job or we have an outrageously cute fetus. She was gushing "how cute" and "perfect" all over the place, as she was taking pictures and measurements.
My due date for now is March 28, which would put me at 14 weeks, 6 days, however, the current measurements put baby ahead one more week at 15 weeks, 6 days and due on March 21. I will post the ultrasound pix as soon as we can get them scanned.
Here are the Week 16 and Week 17 development summaries:
Your baby now weighs about 3.9 ounces (110 grams) to 4.9 ounces (140 grams). It measures about 4.7 inches (12 cm)to 5.1 inches (13 cm) in length from crown to rump. Your baby can hold his or her head erect, and the development of facial muscles allows for a variety of expressions, such as squinting and frowning. The placenta, which nourishes the fetus with nutrients and oxygen and removes wastes, is growing to accommodate your baby. It now contains thousands of blood vessels that bring nutrients and oxygen from your body to your baby's developing body.
