Eating For Two

I've been feeling pretty good, but my appetite is less than usual. I'm trying to watch my caloric and nutritional intake. I have to eat in small portions, but not yet putting little trays of dry fruit and crackers all over the house! My friend, who is a dietician, recommended eating 5-6 times per day too (most people can eat a lot more when they space out small meals/snacks, every 2-3 hours).

Meat has been a big turnoff. I am substituting with soy/tofu, beans/lentils, milk or soy milk, cheese, yogurt, nuts, and peanut butter. Breads, bagels, english muffins, crackers, white or brown steamed rice, peanut butter, fruits and veggies, string cheese and fruit juice have all been good albeit bland.

I'm having a hard time drinking fluids even though I feel thirsty - cold water is better than room temp (normally I like it room temp). Drinking Glaceau brand Vitamin Waters (less artificial tasting, no artificial sweeteners) and adding fresh lemon wedges to regular water has helped, as has diluting fruit juices with cold water, mineral water or Pellegrino. Ginger ales have helped with nausea and motion-sickness. Here is a list of non-alcoholic cocktails, if you are like me and need some variety, as well as some tips for staying hydrated.

I am grudgingly taking a prenatal vitamin and occasionally take calcium pills. I have a hard time swallowing pills, so hubby has to remind me daily. Otherwise, I take children's gummy multi-vitamins daily.
